Holly Hayes ('95) passed away on April 9 after being diagnosed with cancer last June.
She was a longtime board member and supporter of the San Jose Leadership Council. She was on the SJLC board of directors from 2000-2006 and was one of the founders and early supporters of the San Jose Leadership Academy. She came to every SJLA day for the first few years, and loved getting to know the high school students.
"She got to know different kids than Karen [Fuqua] and I did, so we would compare notes at the end of each day," said Rick Holden, executive director of SJLC, SJLA and Community Leadership San Jose. "We also made friendly bets with each other about who the students might select as student of the year. She was right, more often than not."
She was the garden editor of the San Jose Mercury News for many years. Her main love at the Mercury, though, was the Wish Book, which she had run each year since its inception.
You can read the story in the Merc at http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_14855520?source=most_viewed&nclick_check=1.
Holly will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
