Membership: a cadre of civic-minded leaders! San Jose Leadership Council (SJLC) is a member-driven organization comprised of graduates of the Community Leadership San Jose (CLSJ) program. If you have graduated from Community Leadership, you are a member of the Leadership Council! Members are encouraged to utilize a host of benefits and services such as salons, Board Connection, newsletters, leadership events, newsletters, service opportunities, holiday functions, and more. It is through the active engagement of the council’s 500+ members that relationships are made and maintained. Members may participate in a current CLSJ class day with prior arrangement. Members also are instrumental in enabling the Leadership Council to operate the San Jose Leadership Academy, offering a unique leadership and community experience to local high school juniors. Members have access to SJLC’s “members only” Web site where they may update and share contact information and full member profiles. As a member, you are asked to support the Leadership Council’s goals of promoting civic engagement, fostering relationships and advancing personal development by making a tax-deductible contribution. A minimum annual gift of $75 is encouraged. If you have not participated in a CLSJ class, are interested in doing so and becoming a member, click here. You’re a member: did you know that? In 2007 the San Jose Leadership Council took a leap of faith and made every Community Leadership San Jose graduate a member of our organization. Historically, SJLC members would pay dues to join the San Jose Leadership Council. This helped us support our mission of promoting civic engagement, fostering relationships and advancing personal development. In addition, members received an SJLC membership directory, enjoyed our bi-monthly newsletter and had access to a host of unique opportunities. We generally maintained around 100 members, which was one of the strongest alumni organizations in the state. But we realized that CLSJ graduates understood the importance of giving back to the community. We found that many graduates thought they were members when they weren’t, and this kept them from supporting the Leadership Council financially. Plus, the idea of a having 500+ members vs. 100 members to support our mission made the decision seem like a no-brainer. So in 2007, we invited every graduate of Community Leadership San Jose to join the ranks of our prestigious organization. The Council is thrilled to reach out and support our committed group of alumni. Did you know you are among an elite group of community leaders? From San Jose Mercury News’ Sal Pizarro (’07) and Superior Court Judge Joyce Allegro (’92) to Eulipia owner Steve Borkenhagen (’94) and Chief of Police Rob Davis (’96), you are in excellent company. In order to continue to support the San Jose Leadership Academy, offer quarterly salons and a bevy of other opportunities, we need your financial support. Any amount will help, but a donation of $75 or more would be most meaningful. You can donate online or send a check to Rick Holden c/o San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, 310 S. First St., San Jose, CA 95113. Thanks for being part of this important organization that is setting a standard nationwide for promoting civic engagement, fostering relationships and advancing personal development.
